The Sigma SD Quattro H Mirrorless Digital Camera is a highly unique APS-H sensor mirrorless camera designed with the Foveon Quattro sensor. This sensor is renowned for its incredible image quality and color fidelity and produces imagery comparable to that of a 51MP DSLR with a Bayer-pattern sensor. Its new physical design touts a two-mode autofocus system, utilizing phase detection and contrast detection for optimal performance while a dust & splash-proof magnesium alloy body make this system rugged and ideal for harsh conditions.

While in “Auto”, a new 2.3MP viewfinder will toggle between the eyepiece when the photographer raises the camera to their face and then toggle to the LCD screen as the photographer lowers the camera. The Super Fine detail mode takes full advantage of the Foveon sensor, capturing 7 different exposure in one click for the ultimate dynamic range (image can be extracted individually). The Sigma sd Quattro is manufactured to use the Sigma Global Vision lenses, renowned for their super IQ and performance.

Many of you already know by now that I have the greatest respect and admiration for the Japanese company Sigma and their beautifully made lenses that exhibit exceptional quality for many of the camera manufacturers and are becoming the lenses of choice for many. Sigma also makes cameras with what is known as a FOVEON sensor which produces, what looks like to me and many who experience the prints something 3 dimensional, a print with exceptional depth and a film-like color palette.  If you decide to experience this great camera, I really do recommend using the best Sigma USM ART and USM lenses when using this incredible camera. And, there are so many Fine HSM ART and HSM lenses to choose from, now from ultra wide angle to telephoto.

Invest in Sigma HSM ART and other USM lenses in the SA mount? Yes; because, Sigma in their wisdom came up with their HSM adapter that will allow you to use their SA mount lenses on the Sony E-mount. Whoo Hoo. So, you can have the incredible powerhouse SD Quattro H with HSM Art and other HSM lenses for those situations that lend themselves to this unique camera. And, when you want to shoot ultra high ISO situations ohigh-speeded sports, 4K video and extreme slo mo you whack on those beautiful Sigma HSM lenses with the HSM adapter to the Sony E mount. It’s the best of all worlds – making your lens investment go a lot further. Smart move Sigma!

The Sigma SD Quattro H is a body that is built solid, it just feels good in my hand. It is really something quite different in any kind of camera design. It feels old school; like an old solid film camera. But it is digital all the way. With its digital Foveon APS H sensor, this means what you produce with this camera is something so close to a real medium format filmic look, with a three dimensional depth hard to describe here.  One must see the prints to appreciate what the Quattro H can do. Black and white…it’s hard to get closer to that traditional, sharp, tonal black and white film look than with this camera.

I don’t know from technical reviews, I’m a working photographer who needs to get results for the client and cannot tell you how it all works inside from an engineer’s point of view as others who write reviews. I just know what I like and what I don’t like. I also know what reaction I have had from my clients when delivering images from this camera. Also the sales of very large fine art prints recently. I have had the camera about 3 weeks and have had great success with achieving so much more than I imagined I could.

My first experience with Sigma SD Cameras was in 2004 when I photographed polo in England at the oldest polo club called the Cheshire Polo Club. I shot with an SD9 and SA zoom telephoto lens. I realized then how unique the images were and how they were highly regarded by the magazines and people buying prints.

13 years later we see this new Quattro H with so many improvements along with Sigma’s HSM ART and other HSM glass which are some of the finest lenses any manufacturer has to offer.

If you want to wow all with incredible images with a medium format look that no other camera with this size sensor can produce order yours from Samy’s Camera.
