As school starts back up in full swing, I find myself reminiscing about last Spring’s stellar photography students.
Spring 2017, we brought three new schools into the Samy’s Camera fold (and returned to beloved Good Shepherd Catholic School). Our family of alumni and schools sure is growing!
Samy’s Camera Photo Camp made it’s debut at Larchmont Charter – both their Fairfax and Hollygrove campuses.
The Larchmont Charter Fairfax campus is right up the street from Samy’s Camera’s flagship store, making the graduation day store tour a quick hop, skip, and a jump for the kids and parents.  It was heartwarming to teach so close to ‘home.’  On the first day, when I asked how many kids had visited Samy’s Camera before – what fun to see so many hands shoot up and so many smiles.  I assured them they’d still have plenty to learn and see on our graduation field trip to the store.

The tour takes students ‘behind the scenes’ of each department on four floors, but good behavior wins a trip inside the ‘secret room’ – a phrase sure to win over any seven-year-old’s heart (our grip/rental department and dumbwaiter)!

Of course, it’s fun to travel, too.  Samy’s Camera Photo Camp also debuted at Playa Del Rey Elementary – a most amazing school.  It was a Playa Del Rey mom that brought the program to her son’s school, and the staff (thank you Mr. Ray!) and Principal made registration a breeze.  The class filled up in a manner of days.  It was a full house, but the students conducted themselves with discipline, enthusiasm, and dedication to their craft.  The resulting gallery show photos left parents (and their teacher 🙂 breathless.

This semester’s students have big shoes to fill, but I’m sure they will.  What is it that Oprah says?  “One thing I know for sure…”
One thing I know for sure – I am always impressed and inspired by my students.
