Review: Phototools Beauty Dish with Grid (32 In.)

When one is testing a beauty dish, it helps to find willing beauties to pose for the review. Fortunately, we have two brave enough to face my lens here at Samy’s Playa Vista. So, with models such as Maderia and Kait and this Phototools 32″ beauty dish, it makes my job easier.

I like the build of Samy’s Camera Phototools 32” Beauty Dish: Built tough to last. I like the soft and pleasant light quality on my models faces. Yes, I did do a little post using a program I use for all my finished work model headshot or even real estate agent publicity shots.

The adapter I used was for a Profoto B2 portable flash with battery. It slid right on; no worries. Samy’s has adapters for all the other favorites as well: Bowen, Elinchrom, Broncolor.

I shot a few examples using some lovely ladies from the Samy’s main office showing the look with the diffusion material and with the slightly harder results with the grid which gives you the ability to create a different look with the same subject.

What we have here is a very important and useful tool for anyone who is getting in close for head and publicity shots, weddings, also great for 3/4 shots. Also what we have here is a well built..largish 32″ beauty dish for a crazy inexpensive investment. And it all folds up neatly and fits into a nice compact carrying case.

Run, don’t walk to the nearest Samy’s or to your computer to order online. I have a feeling the first batch will sell out quickly so don’t hesitate.
